Quilt Shop Hop

I flew (boy were my arms tired) into Salt Lake City, Tuesday evening - late evening. My sister and I stayed up most of the night "catching up".
Then according to plan we, my sister, RosaLee Joseph and I, began a 4 day "shop hop". The furthest North went was Brigham City, the furthers West was Toole, South was Springville, with a stop in Payson for lunch with a friend, and East was the East side of Salt Lake City.
This is a cute shop in, I think Lehi, but after a couple of days they all blended together.

Each shop had a theme to "celebrate". A really fun was "Quilts etc." in Sandy, they had football games, including hot dogs, however we were there way too early for hot dogs. RosaLee was brave enough to sing the Lincoln Co. Fight song, and won a prize. Most of the "give aways" in the shops were fat quarters and/or quilt patterns and we cam away with our share. We found this really cute "Picnic" quilt pattern and fabric at Quilts etc., RosaLee bought it for me for my Birthday, it was fun celebrating getting old with my sister.

Here is another favorite Shop, The Corn Wagon Quilt Shop, it is in Springville. Most times I'm in Utah RosaLee and I "just happen" to drive to Springville to visit this shop.

Here is RosaLee shopping at Corn Wagon, I don't remember what we found there, however, they have a great stitching room (embroidery) down stairs.
As I mentioned we went to Payson to see an "old" friend, old as in we have known her since we were kids, 12 and 10 years old living in Tintic (Eureka) Utah so also "old" as I think she's mothers age. Anyway isn't this an odd picture of a "parking entrance" - it is off main street in Payson, but you really have to drive around to get to parking. Anyway I thought it was a fun sign.

And here is Gerilee, we went to a Bar-B-Q place in Payson for lunch, then she took us to a "quilt show" what else?? We enjoyed her and the quilts. Payson is a fun old town, and soon there will be a temple there.
Well that's all for now, my trip was a complete success, and I brought home many, many new ideas and projects to keep me out of trouble. When and if I get any of them finished, I'll give you an update.

June, June, June, June!

Ahhhhh, the "Assembly Hall" on Temple Square, I love this old building. It has acted for overflow for conference for a very long time. Do they still use it? Or do we have enough room with the Conference Center and the Tabernacle?
Because I'm getting ready to leave on vacation (again) I'm going to give you the schedule for the rest of June. I hope you are enjoying the Conference once again and I hope you are "keeping up".
Week of June 13 (today) President Deter Uchdtorf, Page 124, he was speaking to the Young Women, but so much is eternal, no matter how old we are!
President Boyd K. Packer - "The Power of the Priesthood" Page 6 - Sunday Morning Session. Did you know President Packer had polio as a youth, he over come that disease and became a fighter pilot in the second world war.
Week of June 20 - Elder L. Tom Perry "Mothers teaching children in the home" Page 29 - Saturday Afternoon Session. I can't remember much about Elder Perry except "he is 6 foot 3".
Elder Russell M. Nelson "Generations linked in love" Page 91, Sunday Afternoon Session. Elder Nelson was a famous heart surgeon, he once quipped that he "held President Kimball's heart in his hands."
Week of June 27 - Elder Dallin H. Oaks "Healing the sick" Page 47 - Priesthood Session. When called to the Quorum of 12 he was a Supreme Court Justice.
Elder M. Russell Ballard "Mothers and Daughters" Page 18 - Saturday Morning Session. I think he was a successful businessman in the automobile business. Didn't he once say he owned the "one and only Nash Rambler dealership in Utah?" Correct me if I'm wrong on this one.
When I return from "Zion" having a play date with my sister, I'll post July, this summer is gong to fly by really fast, I can feel it in my old bones.

Horray we finished another project.

Another "something" that has been on his mind!

Paint the garage floor!! We're selling next year, we couldn't do this so we could enjoy it, no no no, we have to wait until we are getting ready to sell.

There is NO question about getting it done and then deciding to stay. He is committed!!
Anyway, this was the process: Move "everything" out, clean the floor and put some acid on it to roughen it up.
Then, move "everything" back in, most of it to one side, but hook up the washer and dryer so I could do laundry, no, he couldn't wait one day or even half a day to begin!
I tried to remind him that we live in So. Cal and it didn't snow or rain and everything could have been left outside for 3 days. However, next, move the washer and dryer out again - to one side of the garage, and paint half the floor, wait 3 days for it to dry. (The car felt really neglected because it couldn't sleep in it's own bed) Then, move everything back to the other side. Hook up the washer and dryer again, then paint the other side, then wait another 3 days for it to dry and finally this morning we were able to finish putting it back together.

And it looks wonderful!
My job for this job was to help him move stuff - the washer and my Kiln was the heaviest and most difficult to move out and back and then over and then back. (we both need an adjustment) I also was assigned to keep him in food and drink and not walk on the new paint. Not a bad job this time. At least I didn't have to carry the phone around.
I don't know what the next project is, he has a "real, paying" job for, at least June, so I will simply wait and see!!

Conference Ii

I really like this picture of the first presidency!!

I hope you enjoyed all 4 of President Monson's talks!! Did you notice, he had more to say on the live session than was printed when he opened conference?? I love President Monson!!

For the next 2 weeks we will go to President Eyering, he spoke twice - then President Uchdtorf, He spoke 3 times, we will catch 2 of his this time.

So for week of May 30 - read President Eyering Sunday AM session page 22. "Help them on their way" and the priesthood session (I really like reading the Priesthood Session, I can remind my HH when the brethern "admonishes" the men) Page 60, "Act in all Diligence".

The next week, week of June 6 (wow, it's June already) read what President Uchatdorf told the men in Priesthood, page 56,"Continue in Patience" and also Sunday AM, page 68, "You are my Hands".

Happy studying, and thanks for putting up with my notions. JP

Old Books

I love old books, I was going to take a picture of my bookshelf, but this was easier. Actually some of my shelf's look much like this. -- The Point Jacquie!
I have been bored with what I was reading "Harry Potter" again, Margaret Frazer who writes "Medieval Mystery", Thought about going back to Mitford and just may. A new book by Richard Paul Evans "The Walk" - interesting, but easy read - didn't last long. So I pulled some "old" books off my shelf. (I love having a library) "The Man on the Box" by Harold MacGrath - he was also a screen writer so pictures in the book are of a stage play - very cool. What is better, my copy of the book was published in 1904, so I'm holding a book that is over 100 years old. This book was a romantic comedy - very fun - sometimes I didn't understand the houmer, but I'm not quite 100 years old. I'm sure it was much more funny at the time. The upside is - it is CLEAN!!! I didn't have to worry about sex or language, it is a really fun read!
The one I'm reading now is "Lovely is the Lee" by Robert Gibbings. Published in 1942 - older than me!!! If you have ever read "Travels with Charlie" by John Steinbeck (in my opinion he only wrote 1 or 2 books worth reading) you will get the gest of this book. The difference, Robert Gibbings is wondering around Ireland talking to "old" folks about the fairies and "little People" other interesting stuff that happens in that old country. It's a little hard to follow, but it seems to be growing on me.
That's really all I have, I hope you are enjoying the Conference Talks, especially President Monson, he spoke 4 time in April, so next post will be President Eyering. Thanks for listening JP

Roof Up-grade

Check out the roof!!! Doesn't it look great???
When my HH announced he was going to have the roof painted, I couldn't believe it!!
Our roof, while being completely sound, no leaks or broken tiles, looked terrible. So the solution --
paint the roof.

After the painters - "pressure washed" it, then it dried for 2 days, then they primed/or sealed it, then two coats of paint. Geno was not satisfied with just doing that, he had to climb a ladder
and "touch up the edges.
My job was to set in a chair on the patio, with the phone, so if he fell I could dial 911. After all my sweetheart is no longer 20 years old.
Finished without any incident and the house is one step closer to going on the market!!
The purple geraniums are doing well and what was I thinking putting yellow mums with them, but it seems to be working, they are blooming as well.
My lavender is not do so well, I think they need sun - so I keep hoping for sun and the Lavender will take root and grow, please grow, and cover up my ugly spot in the back yard. The only thing growing well there seems to be the morning glory's that were there a few years ago.
Enough!!! Next post will be the next installment on the Conference issue of the Ensign.

Conference Challenge

I love this picture of President and Sister Monson!!
We just received out May Ensign this week, and already it's all marked up. We love to "set at the feet" and "listen to the words" of the prophets!! Therefore this Challenge!
For Family Home Evening, Gene and I read the lesson we will have the following Sunday in Relief Society and Priesthood, for 2 weeks of the month we know what that comes from the Gospel Principals Manual. The first week is "Presidency Instructs" and the last week "Teaching for our Times" is usually from the previous conference, the fifth week, when there is one, is Bishop's discretion. Agreed??
My Challenge is for each of you to become acquainted with "Words of the Prophets". In other words to read, listen to, watch a recording, whatever.... to the talks given in last conference before next conference.
Gene and I like to begin with "THE Prophet" So, we read President Monson' talks first, then go to President Eyering, then President Uchdtorf, get the picture??
We have 20 Sundays before next Conference, the May Ensign has 40 talks - can you see where this is going??? We can discount 3 talks, because we don't often go into "Sustaining of Officers, or Statistical Report or the Financial Report. So we have 37 talks, including the Young Women Conference there were 4 talks at that Conference. You can discount them if you want. But, Hey, you might miss something important.
I suggest you read, listen to, or watch 2 talks a week, beginning with President Monson. To make it easy for you, I will post the first 2 weeks here and if I get any takers on this challenge, I will continue. If not, I will cease and desist. I have a complete schedule on Exel if anyone wants it I'll e-mail it to you.
First Week beginning Sunday May 16, Read:
Page 4 - Saturday AM Session - President Monson "Welcome to Conference"
Page 64 - Priesthood Session - President Monson "Preparation Brings Blessings"
Second Week beginning Sunday May 23, Read:
Page 87 - Sunday AM Session - President Monson "He is Risen"
Page 112 - Sunday PM Session - President Monson "A word of closing".
Let me know if you like this program and I will post the next two weeks before time to begin.

More Panama

We exchanged e-mail with some of the other folks on the tour so I am "plagiarizing" these photos from Sandy's pictures.
If you think Panama is all rain forest, or desert or country - think again. This is Panama City, it think the only large city in Panama but a growing, thriving city. Lots of construction.

Sandy also had a photo of a very large vessel going through the locks on the Panama Canal.
Notice how the lock is completely "full"of ship.

I really like cashew nuts, but never thought much about how they grow. Here are a couple of pictures of how they grow. One on the tree, and the other is the nut picked off the tree. Our guide Oniel jumped out of the buss and picked this from the side of the road. The process is very long and interesting, just google cashew nuts and you can get the skinny on it if you are interested.
We visited the "Emera" Indians, here is a photo of their village. It's on a river, I can't remember the name but it means the "crocodile river". The invite tours to visit them and they sell what they make. The women weave baskets, and the men do amazing carving.
I think this is the last on Panama, but you never know.
I was up late, or early whatever your take is, and decided to give you an challenge, let me work on it and check the blog soon.

Conference

Conference was different this year! Gene and I usually "clear our calendars" and just veg. in front of the TV for 4 hours on Saturday, then I send him off to Priesthood Meeting while I do anything but watch TV.

I usually have a project to keep my hands busy and ofter I accomplish a lot. This year, our "big" son (Jim Fernley) and his family came on vacation. Loralie (daughter) and Eric Cuff was also with us.

Its different with small children, I didn't get any of my project done, I did enjoy most of Conference, the small children all found something to do and were quiet and much of the time attentive.

Here is Emily with her project, Nathan is, what is Nathan doing? Mandy is helping Emily and I think she finished a project.

Stephanie, Katie (taking notes) Katie is preparing for a mission, her 21st birthday is in June. And Mandy with her project.

Daddy (Jim) got to help the boys with their projects. I really could go for more Conferences this way.

Easter Sunday, Conference, Mandy's Birthday (#20), Wow, so much happening in one day! Needless to say I didn't get too much out of conference Sunday Afternoon, thank goodness for the DVR, I can catch up any time, and that is usually late evening. A good relaxing way to get ready for sleep.

Catching UP

We returned home from Panama on Friday (late) and on Saturday was up to my hips with laundry and grocery shopping.
On Sunday afternoon, Mikel (grandson) and his family from St. Louse came to see us. They brought Grandma Loralie and Grandpa James, Uncle Eric, and Uncle Craig popped in as well, and Papa Mark Richter.

The purpose of this trip is the beach and Disneyland! The beach was cold, but everyone bundled up and had hot dogs and samores.
Here is GGrandpa helping Maisa with "healthy" snacks, don't show her parents this picture.

Here is Krew and Sway with Mikel, they loved the beach. Some of them did get into the water, however, it was very cold and they didn't stay long.

The next day was Disneyland and Great Grandma (GG) tries not to go there, actually GG tries not to go to the beach, it takes grands and great grands to get GG to the beach. OK, I've done that and now I'm safe for the rest of the year.

Panama

Panama is HOT and HUMID, get the picture???
The day after we arrived in Panama we went to the Panama City Temple. Sessions are in Spanish, of course. I opted not to use the translators, and was surprised at how much I remembered being so familiar with the ordnance.

One of the first and unusual things I noticed is that they paint their building in bright, bold, colors like my example to the left. You also found pink, bright yellow, lime green even purple. Most of this is in the country they get a little more conservative in the city.

Portabelo, Panama has the "original" Portabelo, not England. In Portabelo, a very poor town, they have a "Black Christ". It is in a church, I don't normally take pictures in a church, but couldn't resist this one. I hope you can see him.
This is in "Old Panama". Panama sets on the 9th parallel, I think that's correct, they never get hurricane or have major earthquakes. Old Panama was established in the 1500 and many of the walls are still standing, like this tower. Gene climed the 91 steps to the top, you may be able to see him in the right window.

The Country of Panama is beautiful, much of it is rain forest. They get 110 to 120 inches of rain every year. We were there just at the beginning of their rainy season, but we didn't get too wet!

Of course you have to go through the locks at the Panama Canal, every boat (ours was a small ferry) that goes through the locks must have a Canal Pilot on board, here is our pilot jumping onto the ferry before we get into the locks.

Here we are inside the locks going up, then we go through another set of locks to either go up higher, or go down, depending on which way you are going.
Interesting, the locks are managed by gravity only, no hydraulics, except for probably the gates.
The Isms of Panama is only 50 miles so you can drive across in just a couple of hours or less. The Panama People are very courteous and complementary to the Americans. Since we turned the canal over to them, they seem to prosper. They are actually building additional lock to be able to accommodate bigger ships. The original locks were built to the specifications of a us destroyer.
We had dinner in the lock museum the last night we were there and were able to see ships go through at night, very impressive! Some "small" ships are pulled through with a tug boat, but others are pulled through with "train" engines on either side of the lock.
We went with Caravan Tours, this is their first year in Panama and are still refining that tour. Our guide Oneil, was very knowledgeable about his country, and we enjoyed learning from him.
There is a lot more, but this post is getting out of hand, so I'll stop for now if you are interested I have many more pictures!

Easter and Conference

The Easter Bunny comes to our house on Saturday morning instead of Sunday. We like the Easter Bunny, but we don't want him to interupt our Sabbath Worship.

Here we are on Friday Afternoon, getting ready for the Easter Bunny. We colorad 3 dozen eggs, of course we were plannin to have deviled eggs and eggs in our potato salad for Sunday Dinner.

Thanks Auska and Ward for letting us borrow Maisa!! (Am I spelling her name right?)

Conference Saturday, after the Easter Bunny came and was appropartly welcomed and thanked for all the candy and baskets he left in my back yard, we settled down to listen and watch the Prophets.

Some of us had projects, mine sat in it's basket while I was enjoying my family!!

Here is the line up to wash up for Sunday Dinner.

OK, I think I'm caught up, if anyone wants anything more, just let me know.

Is it Spring Yet??

Today is a beautiful day. The sun is shining and there is a little breeze. I have had the windows open most of the day, the temperature is probably in the high 60's. Perfect!!

So I'm setting at my sewing machine, (what else is new) and every time the breeze sifted to the east I got a whiff of my Jasmine growing on the west side of the house. So I just had to send you a picture, enjoy the Jasmine, I wish you could be here to experience the scent!

If you peek through the arbor in the 2nd picture you can see the tangerine tree, they are almost ripe, I hope you get here to help us eat them. This is the second crop this year and there are many little tangerines waiting for my cute grands to help pick them. So, hurry up Emily, C.J. and Nathan, and Katie and Mandy, and Kathryn & Jared, and Loralie, James and Eric and anyone else that has a reservation at the Hotel Pickens in the next 2 months.

Sorry Mikel, Emily, Krew and Sway, but by the time you get here they will probably be gone.
However, Mmybe something else will be on the vine by then!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

It's beginning to cool off now, so I better close up the house and hope for another "perfect day" tomorrow!!

(I have more sewing to do)

Now What??

My micro wave Brock, I was trying to figure out how I managed without one for so many years ago and just couldn't thing how it was done! (Things were a lot easier when the world was black and white)

My first machine lasted 17 years this last one has lasted 8 years, we decided to get it repaired because it matches the rest of the kitchen. (Heaven forbid we don't match)

Anyway my HH (happy hubby) struggled with, how am I going to get hot food for 2 seeks, (I do cook once in a while, but not every day) so finally he went and bought a new micro wave, a small one to get us through the next couple of weeks until we can get our "matching" one back. We are such creatures of habit, I was willing to change, but not my HH, so now we will have 2 micro waves and because we have discovered we cannot do without one, we will keep the small one in our "food" storage for a back up.

I'm a great grandma again!!

Am I the first one to blog a new grand baby? Maia Namie Cuff, pronounced My-a Na-me-ah, Thanks Grandma Loralie for helping with that, was born 2 March 2010. The first addition to our family this year. (We are looking forward to at least one more) Maia weighs 7lbs, 4oz and 20in long. Thanks Ward for keeping me in the loop and for the pictures.
And thanks Grandpa Cuff for bringing Misa to my house to visit. She will be a wonderful big sister. I'm looking forward to spoilig both little girls.

Misa came to play.

Yesterday was a holiday, but Ward had to study, so Auska and Misa came to our house for a few hours.

So after the excite of Grandpa going upstairs to get the blocks, (she jumped up and down and yelled Yeh Grandpa) we built a tower, played with the tupper toys etc. Do you realize that some of these toys are almost 26 years old. I bought some of them when Mikel was ready to have toys at Grandmas. Some times we get new toys in the toy box, and sometimes toys go by the wayside. If a child comes with a cold or not well, I dump the toys into a bath tub with bleach, Tupper makes great toys!

Broadhead

Time to get back to business: I posted the Jensen line for a few generations back, now I will go with the Boradhead line. Grandma Jensen was a Broadhead, was adopted by Raymonds, went back to her mother and became a Jorgensen and then married a Jensen. Have I got everyone confused yet? I obtained a copy of her birth certificate and it listed her father as Albert Dowes. "And thus we see" Grandma Jensen is really Helen Lola Dowes (Broadhead) Raymond, Jorgensen Jensen. Any questions??

What I want to do here is introduce you to her mother Edith Broadhead Jorgensen and your sealing line, Edith's husband Niels Peter Jorgensen. Edith was called Grace, a nick name, I don't know where that came from, probably a "lost" family story.

Edith was born 3 May 1891 in Aurora, Sevier, Utah she died 1 March 1947 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. She was the oldest of 4 children and the only girl, her brothers were: Horice, Elijah, and Jabez Willie.

After Willie (Jabez Willie) was born they moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. There in a hunting accident Willie was killed on 4 Aug 1910. The others grew to adults and had families.

Edith (Grace) moved back to Utah, I don't know if the whole family moved, but I suspect so, and met Niels Peter Jorgensen. The story goes -- that he was "well to do" and promised to help her find her baby daughter, Grandma Jensen (who was adopted to the Raymonds) so she married him. She was 16 and not old enough and being afraid of her father, she "ran away". I, after many years found their marriage certificate. She had changed her name as well as her age, the only way I could identify it was Neils' mother, Hansine Laurentine, was one of the witnesses.

Niels Peter Jorgensen was born 30 Aug 1884 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah and died 15 Apr 1963 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. After Edith died Niels married once more but had no children. He died in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. I don't know much more about Niels, but he must have been a good, generous man, and I think they lived together happily until Grace died in 1947. He died in 1963, I should have some remembrance of him, but I'm sorry, I do not.

Here is a photo of Edith and Niels Jorgensen, Mom tells of "going to the ranch" and staying with her grandmother and grandfather. The ranch was in Sevier Valley, but I don't know exactly where.

I don't have a lot of Jorgensen history, if any of you know anything else, please let me know. All I have are the facts. We should perhaps look into more history.
