Is it Spring Yet??

Today is a beautiful day. The sun is shining and there is a little breeze. I have had the windows open most of the day, the temperature is probably in the high 60's. Perfect!!

So I'm setting at my sewing machine, (what else is new) and every time the breeze sifted to the east I got a whiff of my Jasmine growing on the west side of the house. So I just had to send you a picture, enjoy the Jasmine, I wish you could be here to experience the scent!

If you peek through the arbor in the 2nd picture you can see the tangerine tree, they are almost ripe, I hope you get here to help us eat them. This is the second crop this year and there are many little tangerines waiting for my cute grands to help pick them. So, hurry up Emily, C.J. and Nathan, and Katie and Mandy, and Kathryn & Jared, and Loralie, James and Eric and anyone else that has a reservation at the Hotel Pickens in the next 2 months.

Sorry Mikel, Emily, Krew and Sway, but by the time you get here they will probably be gone.
However, Mmybe something else will be on the vine by then!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

It's beginning to cool off now, so I better close up the house and hope for another "perfect day" tomorrow!!

(I have more sewing to do)

Now What??

My micro wave Brock, I was trying to figure out how I managed without one for so many years ago and just couldn't thing how it was done! (Things were a lot easier when the world was black and white)

My first machine lasted 17 years this last one has lasted 8 years, we decided to get it repaired because it matches the rest of the kitchen. (Heaven forbid we don't match)

Anyway my HH (happy hubby) struggled with, how am I going to get hot food for 2 seeks, (I do cook once in a while, but not every day) so finally he went and bought a new micro wave, a small one to get us through the next couple of weeks until we can get our "matching" one back. We are such creatures of habit, I was willing to change, but not my HH, so now we will have 2 micro waves and because we have discovered we cannot do without one, we will keep the small one in our "food" storage for a back up.

I'm a great grandma again!!

Am I the first one to blog a new grand baby? Maia Namie Cuff, pronounced My-a Na-me-ah, Thanks Grandma Loralie for helping with that, was born 2 March 2010. The first addition to our family this year. (We are looking forward to at least one more) Maia weighs 7lbs, 4oz and 20in long. Thanks Ward for keeping me in the loop and for the pictures.
And thanks Grandpa Cuff for bringing Misa to my house to visit. She will be a wonderful big sister. I'm looking forward to spoilig both little girls.

Misa came to play.

Yesterday was a holiday, but Ward had to study, so Auska and Misa came to our house for a few hours.

So after the excite of Grandpa going upstairs to get the blocks, (she jumped up and down and yelled Yeh Grandpa) we built a tower, played with the tupper toys etc. Do you realize that some of these toys are almost 26 years old. I bought some of them when Mikel was ready to have toys at Grandmas. Some times we get new toys in the toy box, and sometimes toys go by the wayside. If a child comes with a cold or not well, I dump the toys into a bath tub with bleach, Tupper makes great toys!

Broadhead

Time to get back to business: I posted the Jensen line for a few generations back, now I will go with the Boradhead line. Grandma Jensen was a Broadhead, was adopted by Raymonds, went back to her mother and became a Jorgensen and then married a Jensen. Have I got everyone confused yet? I obtained a copy of her birth certificate and it listed her father as Albert Dowes. "And thus we see" Grandma Jensen is really Helen Lola Dowes (Broadhead) Raymond, Jorgensen Jensen. Any questions??

What I want to do here is introduce you to her mother Edith Broadhead Jorgensen and your sealing line, Edith's husband Niels Peter Jorgensen. Edith was called Grace, a nick name, I don't know where that came from, probably a "lost" family story.

Edith was born 3 May 1891 in Aurora, Sevier, Utah she died 1 March 1947 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. She was the oldest of 4 children and the only girl, her brothers were: Horice, Elijah, and Jabez Willie.

After Willie (Jabez Willie) was born they moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. There in a hunting accident Willie was killed on 4 Aug 1910. The others grew to adults and had families.

Edith (Grace) moved back to Utah, I don't know if the whole family moved, but I suspect so, and met Niels Peter Jorgensen. The story goes -- that he was "well to do" and promised to help her find her baby daughter, Grandma Jensen (who was adopted to the Raymonds) so she married him. She was 16 and not old enough and being afraid of her father, she "ran away". I, after many years found their marriage certificate. She had changed her name as well as her age, the only way I could identify it was Neils' mother, Hansine Laurentine, was one of the witnesses.

Niels Peter Jorgensen was born 30 Aug 1884 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah and died 15 Apr 1963 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. After Edith died Niels married once more but had no children. He died in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. I don't know much more about Niels, but he must have been a good, generous man, and I think they lived together happily until Grace died in 1947. He died in 1963, I should have some remembrance of him, but I'm sorry, I do not.

Here is a photo of Edith and Niels Jorgensen, Mom tells of "going to the ranch" and staying with her grandmother and grandfather. The ranch was in Sevier Valley, but I don't know exactly where.

I don't have a lot of Jorgensen history, if any of you know anything else, please let me know. All I have are the facts. We should perhaps look into more history.

Great Snail Mail

The mail box in front of my house used to hold great mysteries for me. You never knew what would be there, maybe a card, maybe a bill, maybe even money - No More! Now we get all the bills and all the money via electronic media. Sometimes we get a card, mostly we get ads - ugg. Adds from the groceries stores in the area and there are many, sometimes even a whole envelope full of adds.

However last Saturday the mail box held a treasure. My cousin in Alaska came across this picture that was sent to her father in 1947, just a couple of years ago, and sent it to me. So, I'm sharing my great fortune with you.
Notice the adorable little 2 year old on the right, what a frown and stubborn face and what dark eyes. Then the cute baby (her sister) on the left, big blue eyes and not yet old enough to care about having her picture taken.
Most of you will probably know who these two cute children are, interesting what has happened in the last 60 plus years. Anyway, no laughing, just giggle a little and enjoy the photo.
And once again: A great big thank you and hug for Kay.

Next Blog.

I've just spent the last half hour clicking on "next blog" at the top of your blog screen. If you have never done this it is a fun time wasting activity. Probably as fun and time wasting as farmville.
I found many family blogs, many with twins, and one with triplets. Then I got into the genealogy blogs. There are a ton of them, however, I didn't find any on my family. I enjoyed the family blogs best, I guess because I've been an empty Nester so long, I enjoyed looking at pictures and videos of small children and remembering when my children were small and wishing I could be closer to small grand and great grand children.
I even run into a "cross dresser", interesting activity clicking on next blog. Next time you have a "mindless" moment give it a try.

Next years goals

I make one and only one new years resolution and that is to - never make any new years resolutions! I seldom am able to keep them anyway - so I just plug or plow along day by day and get done want I feel like doing at the moment.

I took some pictures of the yard the other day - this is our really ugly time of year. Gene has pruned bad most of the roses and is in the process of taking out the peach tree. It is so full of termites that it really has to go. Once it's out we'll plan another one, I guess for the next tenant of this house. Poor old tree, it looks pretty sad doesn't it?

Roses look pretty sad, but hey, we still have tomatoes on the vine.
We were in the high 70's today, that is not January weather! Gene worked on the tree and my job was to get the car washed and so I took advantage of the freedom and the car and went to the library. Stocked up on "books on tape" so now I can get more done on my sewing projects. I did dig out the basket quilt and almost have one more basket finished.
Looking forward to cooler weather, actually looking forward to leaving California in the next 2 years.
I hope all of you have a wonderful beginning of 2010.

Happy New Year

Yesterday I finished this project, isn't she cute? And today I got to clean up my sewing room. I most always make a mess when I have a project going.

I also finished an embroidery project this morning, so what's next? I have several projects in mind. Perhaps I'll continue work on my basket quilt, however, I can't possibly have only 1 thing going, I'll have to think of something else as well. Maybe I'll work on another embroidery project that I began last year. So that's 1 applique project, and one embroidery project - now I need a sewing project to keep my interest's rounded out.

Aunt Lee sent me a kit for a table runner, it looks like a sewing project, that just may due. RosaLee wants to do it at the same time as I work on my, I better call and let her know.

Well that's what I'm doing with New Years Day 2010. Let me know what you are doing? I love hearing from all!

Thanks, Thanks, and ever Thanks

Most of the painted china is spoken for, I now have room to paint more, we'll have to make this an annual experience. Monday is the mailing day, so look for your china choices next week.

I finished a table topper this week, I enjoyed my fall table so much I decided I needed one for Christmas - who knows Spring may find me at the machine once again.

Here is the un-finished version, Log cabin blocks are so easy and you can do so much with them. This pattern calls for a bow and berries and also calls for hanging it on the wall however -----

I wanted it on the table, here it is 2 days later quilted and bound. Looks festive on my table, and adds to the little Christmas decorations I do.

This might be a better picture, but the darker one looks richer. Anyway a fun project to fill my retired days. Did I mention? I love being retired!!!!

One last picture, Jeamu, in her Christmas finery, I promised I would post her picture in her Christmas outfit, because she didn't get to wear her Halloween costume this year. I wonder how long she'll wear this dress???

HEADS UP!!!

Hello Family and Friends; I have often mentioned that I have too much painted china and I need to disperse some of it. I have listed many pieces and I hope you will browse the pictures and let me know which one(s) you want. If you don't choose, I will have to choose for you.
First one wins! So get busy and let me know what you want. Send me an e-mail with description, or post a comment, remember shipping is free!
This dish is not quite finished, it needs gold on the rim. it is about 4" square with holly and berries inside.

"Mini" cup and saucer with daffodils. 2008 found me painting all kinds of cups and saucers. Can you find a home for this?

"Mini" cup and saucer with poinsettias.

"Mini" cup and saucer with pink roses, I do have "rose days" once in a while.

Tray with Pansy's, I painted a lot of pansies lately, one of these days I'll get it right. Not a large tray about 6" across I think.

Butterflies inside this candy dish, with gold on the rim and luster all over.
3-4 inches across.

Pedestal box with pink-ish, I can't remember what color I used, roses on top. They are 3 dimensional roses glued on top. 3-4inches across, I didn't measure

Another Pedestal box, like the one above, but with pansies, I warned you.

Small box with blue bow, it's about 2" by 1&1/2, maybe good for rings or teeth, not not a tooth fairy box.

Heart shaped candy dish with pink wild roses in the bottom.

This little picture is about 4 inches tall, it has a little worm on the handle and lady bugs scattered among butterflies and cob webs.

An Easter Plate, 8 inches, I think. the bunny is praying, a fun gift with Easter goodies for a friend.

Right, I don't expect you to keep these forever, enjoy them and pass it on. Or throw them up against your own brick wall.

Clements and butterfly, the butterfly is a monarch the background is green, the flowers are light pink. Vase is about 8" tall.

This is a tray about 8 inches across, there is a snow scene on it and the poinsettias at the bottom, The snow scene is a small house among the trees, with a bridge across a stream can you see it yet? Where is your imagination??

Book Of Mormon

I went Visiting Teaching this morning, after reading Loralie's Blog on "reading" the conference issue of the Ensign. Was discussing this with my friend and had a kind of "heads up" experience.

The first of October our Bishop asked the Ward to read The Book of Mormon before the end of the year. It was broken down to 6 pages a day. The Book of Mormon I read is an "old" LARGE Print Book, so at 6 pages a day, I'm ahead of most, but I'm doing 6 pages every day and maybe I'll finish first?? We have been admonished very often by more than one Prophet to "Read The Book of Mormon" on a regular biases!

Now Loralie gives me a challenge to read the Conference Issue of the Ensign before February (I intend to take this challenge)! We put Conference on the DVR every 6 months and when I can't sleep, which is often, I use a Conference talk as my bedtime story. However, I can see her point of reading. Reading to me means study, agreed??

My HH (happy hubby) and I have "Companion Study" most mornings and we study the Sunday School Lessons, on Monday we have FHE (Family Home Evening) together an we read the lessons for Priesthood/Relief Society.

So in discussing all this "reading" my friend and I decided that we have all the modern consciences at our disposal so we can "Study the Doctrines of the Gospel"!! We have also been admonished to use some of our leisure time to "re-double" our Temple Attendance. Do you think we are getting really close to the Second Coming and the Lord is trying to prepare us for it?? Comments Please!!

Random

Someone (I suspect one of the missionaries) SCRUBBED my cast iron fry pan. Now everything I try to cook in it STICKS!!! Looking on the bright side - because the handle was not stable I think I'll get a new one, as long as I have to season a pan, it may as well be a new pan.
Our Missionaries moved out a week or so ago, (I miss their spirit in our home) anyway my HH (happy hubby) has the room cleaned and painted. Sooo today we bought a double bed for that room. Sooooo you can come and visit and have your own bed and bath, I'll even clean out the bugs from the shower.
Nothing else going on here this week, china painting has been on top of my list of fun things to do. Soon, I think I'll post pictures of finished projects and see if anyone out there wants them, other wise, I may have to start venting and throwing china up against my brick wall. If you find a random pice of china in your Christmas package this year, you'll know I'm out of storage room.
Enough for now, what a boring post, no pictures just "Stuff"!!!!

Ole Jensen

Ole Jensen: Some history about this photo, I found this photo while visiting Alta Baker Black, a grand daughter of Lars Peter Jensen. "Aunt" Alta had according to my mom and her siblings, all the Jensen Genealogy. I was expecting a book of remembrance with everything in order and easy to look at - NOT!!! It was a cardboard box about 14 inches square, but she did allow me to go through it and copy what I wanted. In some of the papers was this photo, it was labeled! The original was about 2 inches square, I asked if I could take it to a photo shop and have it duplicated, but she was reluctant to part with it for even 1 day. I did talk her into letting me take it to a copy machine and make a photo copy. I took all the information that I thought would pertain to my family and copied it. My Aunt Beverly was with me or I may have not even have been allowed to do that. Aunt Alta was born in 1895 and this was in 1977 so she was about 83 years old. Anyway, I took the photo copy to a friend of mine that was taking some photo classes and she took a picture of it (in black and white) and developed it and actually it came out better than the very old original. Sooooo if you have old "copies" of photo's don't be afraid to have them photographed and see what happens.

Ole Jensen, father of Lars Peter Jensen, can you guess which one in the photo is Lars Peter, came to the United States before 1876, they made their way to Draper, Salt Lake, Utah. Ole Jensen died shortly after arriving in Draper. The reason Draper was their destination is that their daughter Caroline had preceded them, and was settled with her family in Draper.
Ole Jensen born 20 April 1817 - Rye, Gorlev, Holbaek, Denmark. Died 8 Dec 1876, Draper, Salt Lake, Utah.
I don't have a lot of history on the Ole Jensen, maybe the history of Caroline one of their daughters will tell us more. I alluded to that history as one of Lars Peters Daughters in my last post, but in fact this Caroline is his sister. I'll dig it our and send it to anyone interested.

Ole married Ane Marie Rasmusdatter on 23 June 1841 in StoreFudgele, Holbaek, Denmark. She was born/Christened - 28 Nov. 1819 in Svebolle, Holbaek, Denmark. note: Ane Marie Rasmusdatter has often been confused with Lars Peter's mother-in-law who is Ane Kristine Rasmusdatter born in 1807. It has been a chore for me to keep these two women separate.
Their oldest child is Dorthea - born 22 Aug 1841, Ulstrup, Gorlev, Holbaek, Denmark and died 9 March 1869, according to the family bible. I have no record if she ever joined the church or if she came to America, she did marry Christian Nielsen. Perhaps I should explain patronymics in Denmark the children took the first name of the father, the sons added sen (son) and the daughters added datter (daughter) as their last name so Dorthea would have been Dorthea Olesdatter. The practice was diminishing by the time Dorthea was born so the Ole Jensen children continued using their fathers sir name Jensen. The practice was completely stopped in 1850.
Next child is Lars Peter, if you read the previous post you know more about him. He preceded his family to Utah so this picture had to have been taken in Denmark. Did you guess he was the oldest son standing between his parents?

Born 6 Feb 1847 in Soeby, Gorlev, Holbaek, Denmark died 8 Jun 1917 in, I think, Draper, Salt Lake, Utah.
Caroline, this is the sister I have a short history of, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Denmark. In the spring of 1866 she left Denmark to come to Zion. She embarked on the vessel Kennilworth. On board she met Niels Boberg a convert to the gospel and whom she had met when he was doing missionary work in Aarhus. They were married while at sea in June 1866, but Elder Samuel Sprague. She was the first to come to "Zion" , she and her husband settled in Draper, therefore when others of her family came they settled with her.
Jens Christen Jensen - Born 30 Jun 1851, Soeby, Gorley, Holbaek, Denmark - died 21 Apr 1911 - I think he came with his parents about 1840/41. He married Caroline Butler. I don't know where he died, Probably Utah??

Next child is Soren Peter Jensen born 18 April 1855 in Hallenslo, Holbaek, Denmark, and died 5 Feb 1924 in Draper, Salt Lake, Utah - He married Jane Rasmussen.

There are gaps in some of the birth dates of the children, I don't know if there were other children that died young, I guess research is needed to figure that out. Anyone game?? I don't speak the language.

The last child I know of is Willard Jensen born 28 Mar 1847 in Torpensaret, Hallenslo, Holbaek, Denmark, he died 4 Nov, 1928, somewhere in Utah - he married Mary Christensen.
I'm pretty sure my grandfather John William Jensen knew this family, at least the younger ones. Remember John was born in 1881. I don't think this family settled in Richfield, but some of the children may have. But I think Lars Peter would have kept in touch with his mother and siblings.
That's all I know about the Ole Jensen Family. Hope you enjoyed this little history lesson, any requests on other members of our family??

Lars Peter Jensen Family

I've been getting into Family History again, New.familysearch.org is dragging me in (kicking and screaming). I'm finding so many mistakes and misconceptions that I simply have to help correct, therefore, I'm getting back into research.

Anyway I've decided to post some family history on my Jensen line. I already gave you histories on my Jensen Grandparents, here is some pictures on Grandpa Jensen's family.

To recap: John William Jensen was the 6Th of 11
children, he was born in 1881.

Can you identify John in this picture???

Father is Lars Peter Jensen - born - 28 March 1844 in Soby, Viborg, Denmark, he died 29 March 1911 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah.

His wife: Matte Katherine Jensen (not related) born - 23 Nov. 1848 - in Raadved, Sknvdrd., Denmark - died -11 April 1915 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah.
Family tradition tell us that Lars and Matte knew each other in Denmark, they both immigrated when their families were converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and met again in "Zion". They were married 23 Jan. 1871 in the endowment house in Salt Lake City, Utah.

To the right of Mattie is John William Jensen. Pretty handsome fellow my grandfather!! While visiting with my brother this summer (I always thought he looked like the Wilcock side of the family) I discovered that in his dotage he looks very much like the Jensen side of the family.

I will identify the rest of the family, although I don't really know much of anything about them.

Oldest child Anna Mary Katherine Jensen, Born Nov 1871 in Parowan, Iron, Utah - I think all roads to Zion eventually led to Parowan, that is also where my Wilcock ancestors settled. They must have known each other?

The next child and oldest son was Peter Oliver Jensen, born in 1873 in Parowan, Iron, Utah.

The next child (not pictured) was Parley Andrew Jensen, born 1875 - died 1877. Also in Parowan, Iron, Utah.

Next was Caroline Marian Jensen - Born 1877 in Parowan, Iron, Utah. I do have a short history of "Aunt" Caroline that tells us a little about the Jensen Family. Anyone interested, I'll look it up and e-mail it to you.

The next son is Orson Parley Jensen born 1879 in Parowan.

My grandfather was the next child, John William, (picturesd above) church records and other records I have found says he was born in Parowan, however, I have had other correspondence that says he was born in Bluff City, San Juan County, Utah. Does anyone out there have an answer??

We can assume from the dates and birth places of the children, the family moved from Parowan to Bluff City, San Juan, Utah around 1881.

This son is Alfred Oscar Jensen - Born 1883 in Bluff City, San Juan, Utah.

The next child (not pictured) is Delbert Marion born in 1886 in Richfield, died in 1902.
Looks like another move between 1883 and 1886 to Richfield, Sevier, Utah. They were some of the first settlers of Richfield.
The next was Lester Edgar Jensen - (not pictured) Born in 1888 - Richfield, Sevier, Utah - died in 1891
This last daughter is Hortense Margaret Jensen - Born 1891 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah.

The Youngest son is Harvey Richard, born 1894 Richfield, Sevier, Utah
I also have an amazing picture of Lars Peter's parents and family. Next post you will get another Jensen History Lesson.
Keep the comments coming I need to know you are listening!
