Pets

Yes! Loralie won that last post. This time I think it will be fun to post some of the pets we've had in the past. The first one I remember was a short haired terrier named Baby. Baby, would steel our candy and go behind the coal stove, where we could not get to her, and eat it.
I thought I had a picture of Baby, but I guess not. Baby was 17 years old when she died I was 19 and no longer living at home. Anyway here is an earlier pet that I do not even remember. Looks like her name is Poochie. We were good with names weren't we??

Next pet is Fluffy, not to be confused with Hagrid's 3 headed dog named Fluffy, this Fluffy is a Pickenese. Here is Mom and Fluffy.

Here is a different pet! When living in Lynndyl we raised a lamb and called her Rosie. She disappeared in the fall and I'm pretty sure we had mutton chops most of the winter.

We decided it would be good for the kids to have a dog. So we went to the Shelter and got a puppy. We never did figure out what to name him, so he became known as Pup. I told you we were good at names. Pup was very protective of the kids, he was small but mighty!! Uncle John had a large Dog, I think a German Shepard, Pup would stand between Joe's front legs and bark at everything, hoping Joe would back him up!!

Charlie, we are getting better at names, was a full size poodle mix. White, and fluffy. We had him for a long time. He was raised by our cat "Mother" and he fought like a cat. He was really good at getting rid of unknown cats, but never bothered Mother. I don't have a picture of Mother, she was called Mother for obvious reasons, but also, she trained all her kittens to the litter box. It was easy to give them away, they were cute and already trained.

We didn't have too many cats, but here is one, I don't remember where he came from, but his name is "Hitler". Look closely you will see why. This picture is taken in Cudahy, or maybe Pioche in about 1966.

One more interesting pet we had was Cinderella, I was working for a Lab Supply House and these little guys were free. Actually some of them got out and we had them all over the warehouse in a not very long amount of time. When Cinderella would get out of her cage, and she was out often, we would find her in my Tupper Ware. Not too good for the Tupper Ware! If I didn't want to be bothered at the pool in the apartment complex we lived in, I would just take Cinderella with me, even men didn't like her. Can't think why.

Last one I have a picture of is Bundy, see we did get pretty good with names. Bundy was a Silky Terrier, small and cute, but wirery. Took to running away and going to a particular home in the neighborhood, finally we just let him go. The people liked him and I was tired of chasing him. Bundy part of the family whenever we could keep him home.

Hope you enjoy my line up of pets, we have had others, James like birds and had a couple of them. Other Various and Sundry dogs. But now Gene and I have none, and I'm really good with that. Gene is enough to care for.

Interesting

I was scanning in photos, old photos, and had to take a second look at one of them. Even my husband had to do a double take. Here is a photo of me, and next a photo of my darling daughter, what do you think? I lied, I'm the one on the right, and Loralie on the left - poor little gal, at least she knows what to look forward to!!! I love you little girl.

Homes I've lived in!

In scanning in so many pictures I found some of the homes I've live in, I thought it would be fun to show some of them here.

First of all, the first home I "never knew" this is where my parents lived when I was born. I think it's in Upland, California but it might be in Riverside, California. Notice the car in the carport - Mom said the next place we lived was in Texas and she drove that little car all the way to Texas. When Dad was shipped overseas we, Mom and Me, drove back to Utah to my Grandparents. My grandma said I cried with a southern drawl.
After the Army, Dad took a job on the Union Pacific Railroad and we lived in different "sections" of Utah. There was no town there, just houses put up by the Rail Road to accommodate the men that maintained the track. Here is a portion of a house in Blackrock, Utah - am I cute or what??

The next place was Lynndyl, Utah - now isn't this a mottle crew?? From left to right - Tony Fatarsy, Myself, Billo Fararsy and on the end my sister RosaLee, the Fararsy's were friends of Mom and Dads when they were in the Army, they stayed friends for years. They settled in California, I don't remember visiting them in CA, but they did visit us once in a while.
Another Lynndyl, Utah, this is me, I was 10 years old, it was probably my birthday - doesn't this look like a birthday outfit? We are still living in RR Housing, all the houses had large yards, but they were built right along the tracks. We grew up with the sound of air horns, screeching breaks and the rumble of trains right outside our back yard.

I was 12 the summer we left Lynndyl, I love the smallness of Lynndyl, but never did live in any place big, until I had to grow up, so I guess that's why I'm a "small town' girl at heart.

This is the school RosaLee and I attended in Lynndyl, it was the proverable 2 room school, there were only 2 teachers my first and second grade, then they had a baby boom and when RosaLee started, they had to hire another teacher. So, Lynndyl Elementary School! Taken by my very first camera a Brownie Box Camera.

This is our home in Caliente, Nevada on Spring St. Between Lynndyl and Caliente we lived in Eureka, Utah - actually outside of Eureka once again in RR Housing called Tintic. Tintic was also the name of the High School and there I went to 7th and 8th grade. There was one school for 7th through 12 th grades. Anyway this is the first home my parents bought in Caliente. Before this home, we lived in RR Housing in Caliente. Actually in moving to Caliente the RR lost the box car our furniture was in and so for a couple of weeks we lived in a box car pulled on a side track, with a small "hut" (I don't know how else to describe it) close by. We had no running water and the bathroom was a privy away from the living "hut" and box car. Then when they found our furniture we moved into RR Housing, and finally this house on Spring Street. The house is still standing, once in a while when I'm in Caliente I drive past. A fun place to grow up. I was 15 the summer we moved to Caliente.

While living in Caliente, my parents opened a small "cafe" , it was called the "Short Order Cafe" on main street. Here I am
with a friend in the cafe, we were the only place in
town you could get "soft ice cream".

We served a hamburger, with all the trimmings, a scoop of cold slaw and chips for 35 cents. 1959/60. The Short Order Cafe, where I learned to work and boy is the restaurant business hard work.
I was married while we lived in Caliente, my family shortly after moved to Pioche, and opened the Silver Cafe in Pioche. They then bought a home up a hill that was really hard to get up by car when it snowed.

Here is a shot in front of the house looking down the hill, when it snowed it was really slick.

Tareca & Jacquie Joseph(nieces) in the front yard of "The Big House" in Pioche. We called it the big house, but it really isn't that big now. It is now owned by a cousin who bought it from Mom several years ago, she is living in Panaca.

I don't have a photo of the Silver Cafe, but here is one of Mom in front of the Beeline Cafe, she moved down there after several years up town. This cafe was down on the high way. After Dad died she moved a double wide trailer behind the cafe.

This is where Mom lives now called "Ye Ole Homestead" . Mom moved to Panaca many years ago, has since retired from not only the Cafe business but also from working at the Caliente detention center. She has served a mission for the church and still lives here in Panaca with her friend Pappy, her dog.

That's all for now, I'm going to try and clean this up without deleting any pictures which I am really good at. If you have any requests, I'll attempt to do something about them, no promises though!!

I finished another project

Just wanted to brag a bit. RosaLee and I started an embroidery project last year, and because of Christmas and dozens of other things, I put it away "for a season". Got it out last month and once again enjoyed doing the embroidery. I'm not completely satisfied with the end product, I wish I had used a medium color fabric instead of the dark, however, it is finished (except for the quilting). I'm happy with the embroidery so have began another project.

And a close up:

All Better

The new machine was delivered today - hooray - I got to do laundry.

Also computer has been acting up for the last couple of weeks, it turns out to be the browser, so

I called our resident computer guru (Troy) and he helped me download a different browser, I don't know what we did to the old one. Anyway we are up and running again with a new browser, but of course we have lost all our bookmarks, oh well I guess I was tired of the old ones anyway. Also have lost all settings for the visually impaired, this print is so small I have to use a magnifying glass, no worries, I'll figure it out

.
I am getting all my blog sites logged in so I can get to them easily.
I'm sad to see the Mikel Richters' leave the west coast. Even though we didn't get to see them often I knew they were close.

OK! Enough of this, I have Temple tomorrow "we Love to see the Temple" just like Krew - tomorrow I get to be the coordinator so I better get some sleep, is that possible? We have a Stake day so it will be busy - I'm polished my roller skates.

Dead Machine

Laundry piling up all over the place!!!

I really like the modern conveniences of the day but it is really irritating to have them break down.

The really upside to all this is I don't have to do laundry this week, the downside is that no one in this house has clean cloths until Tuesday when the new guy is delivered.

Oh well I guess we'll have to do the "Troy missionary" trick and turn our undies in side out for a day or two.

That's all I have I just wanted to vent some where. Other than that "my" missionaries are terrific, we hardly know they are in the house. They must me very hard working because we seldom see them. They are out working all day and in the mornings they are studying.

That's the update here, after my wonderful "Spring" posting this is a little depressing. but we must have the bitter with the sweet.

It's Spring in So Cal

You understand of course we seldom have much winter, but it seems to be spring today!

The geraniums are blooming on the patio

The roses are beautiful!

The corn isn't quite as high as an elephant's eye - yet. But, we have faith that we will have sweet corn and tomatoes this summer.

My Amaralis are coming up through the pansies and promise to bloom beautifully in a week or so. Should have gotten a better close up of these.

Any how, I thought you would like a glimpse of Spring in my yard. I know it's cold and snowy,in some places of the U.S.A. maybe even where you live and I would really rather it were cooler here. However, we are told to "grow where we are planted" and I'm trying. I miss all of you - hope spring comes to you very soon.

I Love Company

But it is so hard when they go home. Tasha was here for a week for her spring break, we had a really great time. She opted to make a Quilt, sounds kind of familiar doesn't it. My Loralie came in February and she made a quilt, I think I'll open up a quilt shop.

We went to Knotts Berry Farm for an afternoon, road "A" roller coaster - this is the very roller coaster, can you see us there? We bought some funnel cake - bought a bonnet for Tasha - she's going on trek this year. Bought a boysenberry pie, but went home for chicken dinner.
Sooooo, now I'm at odds as to what to do next, my house is kind of quiet, even though Tasha is not noisy, I miss her sweet spirit.

I'm sure I'll get over it soon, because the missionaries are moving in on Monday and then this house will double in occupancy and I'll be bumping into people all over the place.

So who's going to come visit next????

Yes!! Savior of the World Production is over, it was a wonderful production, we got rave reviews from everyone that saw it and someone said that Yes we were going to do it again. However, I am now warned and I will not say yes to sewing. I think next time I'll simply buy a couple of tickets and go see it - that's enough for me.

Savior of the World

Our Stake is producing "Savior of the World", it is sooooooo much work, I have a very minute part, in the costume department.
Kathy Willis in our stake is documenting the way the cultural hall is being turned into Jerusalem, and the actors rehearsing.
If you are interested check out her blog, she has done a great job on it. Today, Saturday, they put up the lighting, painting the scenery is on going - check it out if you have time. I wish all of you could come and see it. Kathy's blog is plumtreelane.blogspot.com

Emily is my insperiation

I have never seen this before I checked Emily's blog, but it does sound fun and I have so much "scope for the imagination" and so many things I want to make.
Of course the only person that dips into my blog is my daughter so I'm not too worried about making 5 things for 5 people I know and love. Anyway: This will be fun.... so here are the rules:

The first five people to respond to this post will get something, handmade, from me!
However there are some restrictions and limitations:
1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
2- What I create will be just for you.
3- It will be done sometime within a year from now.
4- You have no clue what it's going to be
5-I have to know you so that I can customize the gift!

The catch is if you choose to do this, you must post this on your blog and be ready to make something for five people too. This will be fun! When you receive the fabulous item I make you, you must post a picture of it on your blog.

Upward and onward

Since I found the pictures I wanted on the hard drive, it has been easier to continue with where I began on this blog. So, here is a short history of my paternal grandmother.

Annie LeFevre was born 24 Sept. 1888, in Spry, Garfield, Utah, she died 28 August 1960 in Panguatch, Garfield, Utah. Her father was John Henry LeFevre from Parowan, Iron, Utah and her Grandfather was William LeFevre. Here is where the polygamy pops up in our family, my great great grandfather William LeFever, had 2 wife's at the same time. Grandma LeFever Wilcock said that she called her grandfather's second wife Aunt Fanny, her name was Francis Banks.

Annie LeFever married Ralph James Wilcock on 21 June 1911, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1912. They had 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls. Annie was often left alone by her husband, I think I mention that in his posting and the reason why. When you read Grandma's auto biography you can almost feel the resentment come through.

There is one story that when she was expecting one of the babies, she was once again alone, she sent one of the boys out to get the doctor, or midwife, I don't remember which one. The older son rebelled (it was a cold and dreary night) so grandmother took a razor strop to him to make him do what was needed. Later that strop went missing and was found on top of the house cut into very small pieces. No one else was ever convinced to do anything by that strop again.

Annie was the oldest of 9 children and was not afraid of hard work. Her family was raised in Spry, Garfield, Utah on a farm, or ranch. After she was married, the family had to "go home" to Spry and seek help from her parents. Therefore, that's where my own father was born. They ended up living in Panguitch, Garfield, Utah in a large Victorian red brick home. I remember going to that home as a girl to visit my grandparents.

Here is a picture of Annie LeFevre Wilcock:

I know somewhere I have an adorable picture of Annie and her younger sister Effie when they were children, when I fine it I'll post it for you but for now this will have to do.

Grandpa & Grandma Wilcock.
Ralph James Wilcock &Annie LeFevre Wilcock.
You are right I croped this picture for their individual photos.

Here is a photo of the children of Ralph and Annie, I think this was taken in Panguitch after Annie's funeral. Standing is John M. (Jack), H. Edith, Annie Elizabeth (Beth) J. Garn - Front is Alma, Grant (my father) Gale, & Author (Art). I hope you can see it, it scanned really small. Double click on the picture and you can see it better, It's a little fuzzie, and Uncle Garn, must have moved because his face is really funny. Sorry!

Anyway, that's all for now, it's almost my bedtime, where should I go nexe?? Any suggestions??

Writer's Block

I don't know what's wrong with me, writers block?? I can't seem to get going on my Dad's side of the family. I've put all my pictures on an external hard drive and it's hard to retrieve them. However, upward and onward and I'll write a little about my paternal grand parents.

Ralph James Wilcock, born 21 June 1876 in Parowan, Iron, Utah. Died 4 Nov. 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah - I remember Grandpa as Dark hair, brown eyes and tall, he was probably at least 6 ft., and very thin. He like to sing and played a couple of instruments, especially the piano. He was a taxidermist and had "stuffed" animals around the house. He worked in a saw mill near Panguitch, I think it was a pardner ship or he owned it. Sorry I don't know that much about my grandfather Wilcock.

My grandmother was his second wife, he married her after his first wife died. He had a daughter by his first wife who lived with her maternal grandparents. The story is that whenever "Madge" called, grandpa jumped up and ran. I think this caused some problems with my grandfather and their family.

Grandpa was the youngest of 9 boys, and his family consisted of 8 children, my father was number 4. At this writing, only on of the children is still living, the youngest, Alma. Uncle Alma lives in Murray, Utah.

I'm going to try to retrieve a picture of grandpa, I don't think I have one when he was young but let's see what I can come up with.

Ok, so I did find a picture of a young Ralph James Wilcock. I don't really know when this was taken, he looks to be about 20???
I have one of a group of musicians with him playing an instrument when he was a very young boy.
He grew up in Parowan, Iron, Utah - his family was very active Church Members.

Great I did find a photo of Grandpa Wilcock as an older man. I know he loved the great out doors and I think he transfered that love to each of his boys. I know my father loved to be out in the open.
Next I'll give you a little history on Grandmother Wiclcok, we didn't know our Wilcock grandparents too well, we seldom went to visit them and I don't remember them visiting us too often. When they did visit us we had a kneeling prayer at dinner. The chairs were turned backwards to the table and we would kneel to pray. We seldom prayed in our home and I found I liked them to come visit.

Grandpa's first wife was Virginia Jackson, here is a picture of her. She and Ralph had 4 children, three boys and 1 girl. All died as infants except for the girl Madge. I don't know much about them, because they are not my direct line, however if you are interested you can check new.familysearch.org to get the whole family.
Gosh, I guess once I get started you can't stop me, however that's enough for now. Next time I get the bug I'll tell you about my paternal grandmother.

A quick post

I do look forward to February, for the last many years my sweet daughtor and I get together to do something. It is so fun to have her come here, like she did this year. Loralie, we didn't get to the beach this year, we must be getting old.
We had a wonderful weekend, doing "whatever we wanted". Loralie helped me out with my fabric stash and made a really fun quilt. We got up "before breakfast" on Saturday and went to the New Port Beach Temple. It's great to visit with and have so many things in common with your adult children. I really have wonderful children, in spit of me!!! Thanks Kids.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Scanning these pictures in takes a ton of time, probably because I have to stop and look at each one and decide when it was taken and where. Many I am keeping just because of the background. When I was 11 I got a Brownie Box camera for Christmas. I found a bunch of pictures I took with that little black & white camera. Including a great shot of the elementary school I attended for the first 6 grades. The school has been torn down now so for me it is a treasure.

In the last post I told you I had pictures of my Dad with kids all over him. Here is one, not with grands, but with his own children on his back playing "horsey" no wonder he would groan "o my aching back."
He really is under all those kids somewhere.

Memories

I just read Loralie's comments on my post about my grandmother, her great grandmother. I love that my children have some great, happy memories of their ancestors.

I have been scanning in pictures, the object is to reduce the amount of shelf space the many, many, books take up. I have come upon a couple of pictures I would like to share.

This is a picture taken in Oak City Canyon, in Millard County, Utah. The little girl is my sister RosaLee she was about 1 year old, so this was taken in 1947, the boy setting next to her is a cousin, Stephen J. Jensen, Stephen took his own life in 1988.
I like this picture because it shows how much hair RosaLee had, notice it is piled on top of her head, anyway that's what it looks like. Great old picture!!

This is a picture of me, I'm the oldest and RosaLee again, the was taken in 1947 as well. Notice the stroller, were they really called strollers??? This picture reminded me how much my sister and I do not look alike, never did. Even though this is a black & White picture, you can see how much lighter my hair is than hers. However, we both look very well fed. Anyway this is a treasure I found today, one more!

I know I posted pictures of my dad before, but this really reminds me of him, he loved his grandchildren and when they were around he usually had one or two of them on his lap. These little ones are my nieces, RosaLee's children. The oldest is Taresa, and the baby is Jacquie Lynn. I know there are pictures of him with a bunch around him, when I run into them you may get another dose of my dad. Enough of now, I have other stuff to do.

As Promised

Here are a couple of pictures of my Grandma as I remember her. She died too young, or we didn't enjoy her enough!!

Loralie will you remember "Grandma's Kitchen"? This pictue brings back mega memories for me. Look behind her, that little shakey built in porch where she usually had plants. She grew orchads at one time and anything else she took a fancy to. Watering her plants were a joy to her, when she came to California she "collected" plants to take home and try to grow. She often said that they grew better if you "borrowed" a slip. Enjoy!!
OK, what do you want next??? Nana's siblings or should I switch over to the Wilcock line?
