Busy, busy Jemma

Jemma and Troy came to Lunch last week, after we went to lunch at Artic Circle, Jemma stayed with me while Dad-Dad went to work for a couple of hours. She is very busy.

Here she is emptying my storag in my foot stool, I had forgotten all that was in it, but now it is cleand out. I said are you "cleaning up" and she said "No, Away" Meening, I guess that she doesn't clean up - she puts away. I sure enjoyed her, we must do it again!!

Fathers Day/ Birthday

Looks like I caught my sweet heart with a funny face. Once in a while Fathers Day and my Birthday land on the same day - it happened this year.

After a down poor, have I mentioned it rains and snows in he mountains? During a rain storm we grilled steaks, in the garage. But no picnic we had dinner inside!!

My 2 "Fathers" and their families came to celebrate with us. I love being close to family, have I mentioned that? I sure not enough! Dinner was wonderful, check out Nicole's blog for the wonderful desert we all enjoyed after grilled steak (my garage still smells great) and all the trimmings.

"The cousins had a fun time together, Jemma likes to play with Emily and the boys and why, oh why are Grandma's toys so much fun? I have more pictures of the kids playing under Grandma's quilt perhaps for another post - I wonder if playing under the quilt will be memories for yet another generation?

The "cleanup crew" Thank you sooooo much ladies, between Stephanie, Nicole, Mandy and Tasha all I had to do was put pots and pans away!! You have no idea how much I appreciate that!!!

And to end the day - after the storm, I caught this terrific sun set - it was almost worth all the rain. Now I understand we are going to be in the 80's the end of this week. So I will get my new Lilac Bush in and perhaps we can have a swim party!!

Thanks to all for the wonderful Birthday Party - I hope all the Fathers enjoyed their day as much as I did!!!

"Decoration" Day Adventure

Many of my ancestors are buried in the Richfield Cemetery! Yesterday, Gene and I met my mom at the cemetery to "decorate" the graves.

Richfield Cemetery is a combination of "Pioneer" and modern head stones, I love to drive into the cemetery and see all the flags flying - there appears to be a flag on every "veteran" grave, and it is beautiful. Richfield comes out in mass to put flowers on the graves of their ancestors - we were no exception yesterday!

Here is my Mom - "Visiting her friends"! The stone to the left is my Dad's, but we had to walk around a couple of block so she could see who was recently buried. She said when she wanted to visit friends she had to come to Richfield Cemetery - she is the last of her generation.

After our chore is finished we usually go to JB's for lunch - Gene and I drove in from the North so didn't notice all the traffic signals were out. We drove to JB's and it was closed we continued to drive through town - no traffic lights - no traffic - everything was closed due to a power outage - the closest place for gas or food was Elsinore. The one place (gas station with snack bar) in Elsinore was so packed we opted to drive into Monroe.

In Monroe we found the Sage Brush Grill, it was very busy and very noisy - a small place, however with little other option we waited and had a delicious lunch - you really must try it. Potato Soup with home made yeast rolls - Country fried steak - I brought half of mine home for lunch today! Check out the web, I guess they are famous and we didn't even know they were there. It may be a favorite place to go when in Sevier Valley.

A good day, good to see Mom, she appears to be doing well - she is walking better and not complaining so much, I may have to do this again next year.

Try this one!

I found this treasure at the library! It takes place on 2 continents - England and Australia. Jumps back and forth between 3 different time periods. Early 20th century to 1975 to 2005. I enjoyed the mental exercise keeping the characters and generations straight in my head. She is, in my opinion, a good writer, I liked her descriptions.
Kate Morton is from England - check out her website www.katemorton.com and listed to her explain how she comes to write some of her books. I have a couple more on order from the library, but am thinking I may want to own this one.

Before the rain!

We went to see the tulips at Thanksgiving Point - it was a beautiful day, we enjoyed the flowers and afterward went to dinner. Jim, Steph and their 3 small muggles went with us, we enjoyed chasing after them and then them chasing after us.

Grandpa found a "tub" of water all the kids found the water and next thing we knew they were wet up to ther knees - glad they didn't dive in.

Arn't they cute little tulips??

Does anyone know what the yellow flower is? It is really beautiful, I would like to try some!

Thanks for letting me "babble" on - I love Utah!!

Ahhhhh Ducks

We came home from a social and these little crittes were in the drive way - we went around them to park and so did many of others going home. Listen to Mama Duck talking to her little ones, and just like some of our little ones, they are not listening. Enjoy!

We took a walk around our community it's about a mile all the way around. I took my fun camera, it's not as good as Nicole's but I think you can see how pretty spring is in my community!! This is just west of our home at the end of the community.

These are on the north side, most of the daffodils and jonquils are gone - beat up by the wind and rain but these pretty little ones have survived.

These orange tulips are close to our home - across the street - tulips are blooming every where and in such wonderful colors. I wonder what color I will plant in the fall - anyone have any suggestions? I'm kind of favoring the purple - lavender hues.

The favored ground cover seems to be purple phlox and you can find it all around, there is some pink and some lavender and Patty has some really deep purple.

And this beauty is right out my sun room window. So our community has turned from white to pink to all different colors.

Tonight we are supposed to get another storm with snow - but it's very warm and very windy. I'm already looking forward to winter!!! I Love Utah!!

Spring Snow

Yesterday the temperature was in the 70 - a beautiful day. When I walked down to get the mail a soft warm rain began. Jim and Troy came and had pizza with us and the "boys" (Jim, Troy and Gene) went to Priesthood so Stephanie and the 3 little ones hung out here until Priesthood was over. When they left it was raining - still not cold, just raining.

I woke up about 3:30am and wondered why out bedroom was so light??? I got up to investigate - look at the snow on the bushes, it was really lovely.

Still snowing when we got up about 8:00am so I had to take some pictures. It continued to snow off and on for most of the day. The roads and driveways and walkways cleared of snow in the early afternoon, it is only sicking to the grass and probably by tomorrow afternoon most of the beautiful white stuff will be gone!!

In the mean time, I had to show you what "Spring in Utah" looked like. I waded out in front of the tree in the front of our home and had Gene take my picture. The snow was up above my ankles - so I'm guessing 6 or 7 inches. That is not "popcorn popping" on the tree, it was covered in heavy, wet snow. Gene decided I had lost my mind, I thought he already knew that!!

Anyway - "Spring in Utah" is a little different, but I love it. Conference was wonderful - I hope everyone has finished the last Conference addresses, if not, you have about a month before the May Ensign comes with more to study. I hope your "Spring" is as wonderful as mine!

I thought it was spring

Soooooo, I put the "Spring" bedspread on the bed, it really brightened up our bedroom. Made my HH "Happy Hubby" Happy!

Then I hung the butterflies in the kitchen under all the antique tea cups. They look very comfortable there just fluttering their wings as we walk by.

Then I hung my new Spring wall hanging in the entrance hall and it brightens up my world as folks come to visit. (Almost finished with summer!)

However, it is now snowing - I love watching the snow from all the windows in my "sun" room, I'm sure it won't last so we will enjoy it while it's here.
Reminds me of a poem my dad used to quote: Spring has sprung, the grass has rise - I wonder what that white stuff is??? I hope it's spring at your house!!! Happy Spring!

Down Memory lane

Last Thursday RosaLee, David, Gene and I took a "road" trip! The plan was to drive to Lynndyl and Eureka, Utah - where RosaLee and I spent much of our childhood.

We headed that way, but stopped in Goshen to ask directions to where the Church is building a movie set to depict old Jerusalem. As we drove along it was more and more evident that we were in "cow country". Above is a still of the cows feeding, the video at the end gives you and idea how many cows that were along side of the road.

This is the church in Lynndyl, I was baptized there. The font was under the stage. I don't know if it's still there, we couldn't get it. It is now used as a community center and is known as "The Princess".
This is where our home was (the vacant lot) right along the rail road tracks. Nothing there now, however, we did walk the same road that we walked 50 years ago to school, and remembered the larg garden Dad planted each year next to the house.
After Lynndyl, we moved to Eureka, there are only 2 churches there now, I don't remember which one we went to.
I think the white on in the for ground!
There is an old cabin there now (wasn't there when we lived there) moved from "Cherry Creek". Belonged to Porter Rockwell, very interesting.
Main Street Eureka, 2011!

The video I promised with all the cows having lunch in Goshen, I didn't realize it would down load at the bottom. We had a great time remembering where we grew up and also "cow country".

One Half Cousins Reunion this weekend

Mandy and Tasha met at Grandma's for a "mini" cousins reunion. They arrived Late Friday night and on Saturday decided on a project.
Mandy made a cute top and Tasha a cute dress with mini jacket.

We began with pressing Mandy' fabric and laying out Tasha's fabric (didn't need pressing).

Conference on what to do next and when, and to admire each other's choices. Grandma was the consultant and I got a lot done on the quilt on the frame.

Amazing to me that much work was done setting on the floor. Here Tasha is making sure of her directions.

Mandy at the sewing machine, next time we do a project like this, we hope to have 2 machines available.

Tasha's turn at the sewing machine!!

Tasha on the floor again for the hand work to finish projects. We were determined to finish because on Sunday morning they had to go home
.
Finished product and just an hour or so into Sunday - Grandma needs a nap.
Notice the decorative stitching on Tasha's hem (beats all that hand work that is usually required to hem a circle skirt)
It was a really fun weekend for my2 of my sweet grand daughters, (we missed Katie and Melanie) and grandma. Grandpa was hoping they would go to the clubhouse for a game of ping pong, but - well maybe next time.
Thanks for letting me borrow your girls, I hope it can become a regular visit.

Old Home

Remember this old house? With the used brick and dark roof and brown trim?

It is the same old house but they really brightened it up, the brick is painted red, the roof doesn't show as green as it is (I'm told). My Friend in Anaheim says it "looks like a Christmas House". Oh well, to each their own, we are happy to be in Utah.
Alan says they have taken out all the Aferican Dasies in the front and side, I'm sure that is an improvement those frowers were a pain to keep the grass out of. But, it gave Gene something to do in his spare time.
What do you think??? Like or not.

Snow Man

I forgot to add my "pathetic" snowman to the birthday post. I just had to get out into the snow - it is not cold just piling up snow. So, I shoveled the walk, couldn't wait for the maintenance crew to do it and then built a snow man - I must be out of practice (50 years in California will do that to you) because he's pretty pathetic. Gene wouldn't let me have a had so SHE has a flower in her hair (head)! Her face is grapes (I couldn't waste my peanut M&M's) I had to build her on the patio, because I didn't want to muss up the lawn - it is so pristine and white - I love snow.
It's still snowing, but I had a wonderful time - I didn't realize how wet I was until I came in and my hair was soaked and my sweater - so just a change of sweater and a hair dryer and I'm warm and cozy again. Have I mentioned I love Snow???

Loralie's Birthday and Snow

Siblings - I love to see my three together and enjoying each other!!!

Cousins! Jemma likes to play with the cousins, and Emily, C.J. and Nathan join right in. Grandma's toys are still kind of new so it's OK so far - we'll see how long they last, then they will bring toys from home.

Dinner for the Adults was roast, potatoes, salad, vegetables etc. all the things adults like - dinner for the kids was pizza and root beer - all the things kids like, and they didn't have to have any vegetables!
Grandma's house is kid friendly!!

After Dinner, the Adult Cousins cleaned up and the kid cousins pulled out the hide-a-bed and watched a movie.
It really was a great weekend with my sweet daughter - she said it was strange to travel North instead of South, I am so glad she did.
We also had lunch with Marcus and Mitch - and Craig came for FHE Monday evening - Kathryn & Jerad met us for a yogurt on Saturday so she got to see all the kids that live here - "spread out so it was great for everyone".
Looking forward to next year!!!
