Utah - an amazing experience

We began our "Utah experience" on 29 July 2010 with a trip to Castle dale, Emory, Utah for the Pageant they do every other year. The pageant was about the settling of Castle dale and surrounding areas. This area was the last one that Brigham Young directed before his death in 1877.


If you have never seen it, it is well worth your time. Before the pageant they serve dinner and there is a small pioneer village to wonder through. There is a motel in Castle dale, the pageant goes until 10:30 pm, if you decide to stay 1. book early, and 2 get there early so you can get a room as far away from the highway (10) as possible, it is very noisy.

A very important reason for going to Utah was to witness the baptism of Emily Ann Fernley. We are so pleased with Emily's decision to be baptized. That is her daddy with her and he did a great job baptising her.


When you are baptized in our family, you receive your first real scriptures. Emily has been looking forward to receiving her scriptures for a very long time. They have her name on the front in gold, and she is already reading the Book of Mormon.

Every time I get my 3 together, I have to have a picture, I know they "hate" it. Jim said to Loralie, stop fooling around and let's get this over with. I love this group!!

The next reason we went to Utah was to be in the temple (Jordan River) with Katie when she went for the first time. Katie has her mission call to the Barcelona, Spain Mission. She leaves in November.



Last of all we went to Utah to look for a new home. Gene and I have decided to leave California and move to Zion. We bought a home in an "active senior center" in West Jordan, Utah. We decided we did not want to mow grass or shovel snow, this is what we found and we are very pleased with ourselves. You may be able to see our patio in this photo, it's almost big enough to cuss a cat.
The side of the building, the landscaping is really nice and the buildings are not too close to each other, we cannot shake hands with our neighbor through any window!

We had lined up a realtor before we left, and she had found several homes for us to look at. We met with her on Monday AM, and by Monday afternoon we had found what we wanted. The offer, counter offer and our acceptance was a done deal by Tuesday evening. We would like to sell here so we can pay cash, however, if that doesn't happen we have a loan in line so this will be ours one way or another.

We have both felt the Lord's Hand in this transaction, so we both feel we will sell here very quickly, so keep us in your prayers we would like to be settled in Utah before snow flies!

The kitchen is a common wall so no window, however, there is tons of lighting in the ceiling, over the cabinets, under the cabinets, etc., you get the idea. eventually a sky light may be feasible. Gene thinks I'm going to use that counter for meals, think again Geno.

If you follow the kitchen back there is the laundry room, utility room (furnace, water heater etc.) and exit to the double garage, and then a HUGE storage room. There is also a pantry and a storage area for food storage. No more storing in the garage.

The "den" has double doors so we can close it off, I think our computer, Gene's (messy) desk, file cabinets will probably go into this room.




The Master bedroom has a large bath and walk in closet. The home has a ton of storage space, there are cabinets and closets behind every door. There is also a "guest" bedroom with bath, that's where my Sewing room will be, I think.



Living room, we will probably have to keep this room formal because of our furniture, but I think I can have some book shelves in this room. The dining room is also in this common area.

My favorite room is called the sun room. It is through an arch off the living room. It has windows on 3 walls. I would love to find a book or paint china in this room. We'll see what furniture fits, we may have to have the TV in here.

Last of all it has a club house with a "work out" room, a full kitchen and a home theatre. The club house can be reserved for family functions. The pool is open from Memorial day to Labor day. It is reserved for residents until noon, then the grands can come swim.

This video is of Jim's Play yard, he has a wonderful place for children to play. Here is some of the kids that came to Emily's baptism, they got Jim and another uncle to spin the merry-go-round and were having a wonderful time.
